In the fall of 2014, two families of Orthodox Christians living in the 'other-the-mountain' part of the Birmingham metropolitan area desired to start a parish for those wanting to be on the Julian calendar and to have an Orthodox parish in their area. With the blessing of Metropolitan Hilarion in May of 2015 the chapel was officially established as part of the Monastery of the Glorious Ascension. The small community has grown slowly but steadily.
