The Diocese was part of the Exarchate of Western Europe under Metropolitan Evlogiy until 1926. It remained loyal to the Church Abroad and Bishop Nicholas was consecrated Bishop of London in May 1929. The Diocese remained part of Western Europe after his death in 1932. In 1956 it became a Diocese in its own right as Preston and Great Britain but this was changed to Richmond and Great Britain in 1958. Archbishop Nikodem served in the British Diocese until his death.
